Mulching & Bed Maintenance
Fresh mulch and clean bed edges that protect your plantings and give your landscape a polished, mountain-refined look.
A well-mulched bed does more than look good. In the Blue Ridge, mulch moderates soil temperature through our cool nights and warm days, holds moisture in our well-drained mountain soils, and suppresses the aggressive weeds that thrive in our long growing season. Blue Ridge Lawn & Landscape installs natural hardwood mulch, pine straw, and shredded bark tailored to your plantings and aesthetic. We edge beds cleanly, remove spent perennials, divide overgrown clumps, and refresh mulch to the proper depth, typically two to three inches, to keep your beds healthy and handsome through every season.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should mulch be refreshed?
In our climate, we recommend a full mulch refresh once per year, typically in spring. Our heavy rains and biological activity break down organic mulch faster than drier climates. A light top-dress in fall can help beds look sharp through winter.
Is pine straw or hardwood mulch better for my beds?
Both work well in Western North Carolina. Pine straw is lighter, stays in place on slopes better, and has a natural mountain look. Hardwood mulch retains moisture longer and breaks down into rich soil. We often use pine straw on slopes and hardwood mulch in flat beds.
